...about me

Wife. Mother. Educator. Artist?

I've always loved art - usually of the musical form and never saw myself as an "artsy type." I did not spend a lot of time in art classes. I focused on written forms of art - just knowing that I would be a bestselling author by the time I was 25. Begrudgingly, at first, I became a teacher. Then, my chosen career and path no longer felt burdensome.

My love for painting began in fourth grade. I had to create a model from a scene from a book that I was reading. At the time, I was almost done with Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, and I chose a snowy scene with Jo or Amy or somebody.

My mother took me to Michael's to get supplies, and we got paint, paintbrushes, special decorative cotton and these ceramic bisque houses that became the highlight of my model.

I spent hours painting the little details on the houses - making sure the bricks were the right color and carefully dabbing the proper color onto the windows and doors - awaiting the special moment when my little houses were dry so that I could glue them down.

I don't remember the grade I got for the project. I don't even remember much about Little Women, but I definitely remember how much fun I had painting.

Since then, I have painted more ceramic bisque houses than I can count.

Eventually, I branched out to other things - stepping stones in the shape of a butterfly, a unicorn, a hedgehog, and a turtle, bears on the cheapest canvas I could find, small little animals [also made of ceramic bisque,] and anything else that would hold a dab of acrylic paint- because I'm too impatient for oil paint.

I did not study painting; the only visual art class I've ever taken was in 10th grade, so nothing I create is without flaws - but painting is literally one of my favorite things, and I've chosen to share my pieces with the Interwebs.

Enjoy!
